Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday denied Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,[IPOB] and three other accused persons, bail.
Delivering her ruling on the bail application filed by the counsel to the defendants, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Justice Nyako held that the offences the defendants were charged with were not entirely bailable.
She said the charge of treasonable felony which hangs on the necks of the defendants attracts life sentence.
Nyako therefore denied them bail on the grounds that their case was sensitive to national security.
On the argument of Kanu's counsel that Muhammadu Buhari made a statement on national television saying that the IPOB leader was guilty of the charges leveled against him, Justice Nyako responded by sating that the president has freedom of speech; saying he has the right to express his opinion on any matter.
Nyako is the third judge to handle Kanu's trial after two other judges have withdrawn from the controversial case.
