Arewa youths support Al-Mustapha's retrial

The Arewa youths under the umbrella of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum [AYCF] have thrown its weight behind the Government of Lagos state to contest the verdict of the appeal court that set former chief security officer [CSO] to the late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha, Maj. Gen. Hamza Al-Mustapha [rtd], free after he had been convicted for his alleged involvement in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election winner, Late M.K.O Abiola.

It would be recalled that Kudirat was gunned down in Lagos during the agitation to revalidate her husband's mandate. The protracted trial that lasted almost fifteen years sa Al-Mustapha convicted for murder before he was set free and acquitted by an Appeal Court.

In expression of dissatisfaction, the Lagos state Government approached the supreme court to revisit the Appeal court verdict which the Apex court granted already.

The Arewa Youths, in a statement signed by their National president, Alhaji Yerima Usman Shettima said: "The outcome of the Lagos state appeal will settle the matter once and for all" He further stated that as it stands now, the fate of the accused still hang in the balance. He added that the final verdict would put the minds of all parties involved at rest for them to move on, having seen that justice has been done properly.

However, the group warned some unnamed people it suspected to be influencing some sections of the media to misrepresent the the pronouncement of the honourable court to desist from doing so, complaining the the tones of reports of the Apex court's pronouncement in Abuja from some media platforms gave cause for concern.

The group also pointed accusing fingers at  some unnamed northern elites who they believed were collaborating with their southern counterparts to malign a party to the case with a view to keep him out of circulation permanently for no just cause.

If they continue with their diabolic tactics, the time to expose them is now. ACYF warned, saying, "we are keen watching the body movements of some individuals and group of people who might attempt to pervert the cause of justice"

Poor people are our priority, MMM Nigeria insists

The popular wonder bank, Mavrodi Mondial Money Box, otherwise called MMM, which is a Ponzi scheme that froze participants accounts for a month, returned at about 11:am , with a strong promise to pay the poor before the rich.

The scheme which was scheduled to make a return on January 14th, said it was setting a limit on daily withdrawals, this is in order to  control panic withdrawals. A statement issued by MMM founder Sergey Mavrodi, stated that: "The holidays are over and we are now open. Just as we promised. Actually as we also announced late last year that we will be back in business, we are now back and even better as we have worked on improving our services.

I want to believe that the members of the system will forgive us for whatever inconvenience we may have caused them by our short break. Its related to the hysteria raised by the authorities and the mass media around MMM. By joining forces, we have managed to nearly give the members of the system a heart attack and frightened them out of their wits.

Poor souls don't know what to expect. Will we open again or not? This is solely why we have decided, considering the situation, to reach out to the members, re assure and cheer them up by opening a little earlier. Citing panic withdrawals as a reason, the MMM said payments would take a few days. It called on the various media to leave the scheme alone.

As of this notice, MMM resumes its usual operation. Members of the system can now create their GH requests. However, its obvious that panic will reign supreme in the first few days after the reopening of the system. We are likely to be deluged by GH requests. Because of this, we are going to make a gradual paybacks by setting internal output limits. In other words, we will only pay a certain amount per day. Please be prepared to wait for a couple of days. We are certain things will calm down, and the system operation will return to normal.

We are the ones setting the limit, so it is completely under our control, and we are not expecting any emergencies in principle, Have no fear and go on about your normal business as usual.

Tragedy as wife loses her hubby three days after wedding

This is a mind-boggling and pathetic story of a young wife, Chidinma Cynthia Onyeagba, who indeed experienced her best and worst week under seven days. She had her traditional/white wedding on Monday the 2nd day of January, 2016. The young couple who were both from Anambra state, were full of life and basking in the euphoria of their blissful union and looked forward to having a great future together as man and wife.

However, they had no idea that  that fate had a cruel plan for them, which did not take long to unfold. On 5th of January, just three days after their marriage rites, the happy couple embarked on a long journey back to Lagos, where the groom based. Alas! they were involved in a terrible motor accident in their car and the groom died on the spot. The inconsolable young beautiful bride, Cynthia, survived the accident, however, she sustained minor injuries and is presently receiving treatment. She's understandably in a very deep trauma too. What a sad end to a union that lasted only three days. May the soul of her husband Mr. Chukwuka Okwudili Asiegbu, rest in the bosson of the Lord.

Shameless Jammeh readies for war, strengthens personal security

The defeated incumbent president of the Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, has remained defiant and bullish in his resolve to cling on to power, not minding the threat by the ECOWAS. The president has been in power for 22 years and eventually lost his mandate in the recently concluded presidential poll, where he surprisingly lost to the president-elect, Adama Barrow.

It would be recalled that the incumbent president had earlier conceded defeat and accepted the election result, only to change his mind the following week, alleging that he had discovered several irregularities and corrupt practices in the said election, he made it clear that he would not hand over to the president-elect, demanding that a fresh election be conducted.

The situation has since plunged the country into political uncertainties and tension increases daily, even as the January 19 handover day approaches. several African leaders have tried to talk up the defeated president into respecting the will of the good people of the Gambia by handing over to the president-elect and save his nation of a potential blood shed. However, Yahya Jameh has remained resolute and maintained his stance. He has since moved to strengthen his security and acquired more Armour in readiness of whatever may be the outcome of January 19.

KOWA Party applauds Obaseki on ban on illegal ticketing and taxes in Edo

Edo state chapter of KOWA party has lauded the ban on illegal ticketing and collection of outrageous taxes in the state, describing the move by the state Governor as deft and timely. The governorship candidate of KOWA in the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state, Mr. Thompson Osadalor, said the ban would not only stop the state from being shortchanged by a few individuals who collected illegal levies and taxes from such ticketing, but also stop the oppression of the people of the state.

Osadalor said Government depended on taxes to fund its budget, but stressed that such taxes must have human face. He further called on Governor Obaseki to set up a committee to fashion out a viable frame work for collecting levies through tickets, especially from motor parks, traders and others across the state.

He said: I sincerely commend Governor Obaseki for having the political will to place a ban on all forms of ticketing in Edo state. To me, this has been long overdue. While i don not see anything wrong in collecting levies, the way and manner it was collected in our darling state is unacceptable and leaves much to be desired. The people have been made to bear the burden of these levies, which in most cases have become double taxation."

Obaseki promises speedy economic recovery

The Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured the good people of his state of a speedy economic recovery in 2017 even as he announced the prohibition of the activities of private tax collectors in the state. The Governor gave this assurance during his New Year broadcast to the people in the state capital Benin-city.

The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that his broadcast was titled: 'Message of hope and renewal', The Governor while felicitating with the people, said that he would never

Cultist kills lover, dumps her corpse in well

Homicide detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department[SCID], Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, Nigeria, have arrested a suspected cultist, who murdered his lover and threw her corpse in a well at the Igando area of the state. The 27-year-old suspect, Yemi, allegedly a member of a deadly cult group 'Black axe', was said to have beaten his girlfriend to death after accusing her of dating a rival cult member in the area.

The sad incident which happened on December 30th, 2016, shocked and angered residents of the area. The body of the lady was discovered when a neighbour went to the well to fetch water. He raised the alarm attracting the attention of other tenants. It was revealed that the suspect after committing the crime, went inside his apartment and started parking his belongings. He was desperate to escape before the residents caught him and handed him over to the policemen at the Igando police station.

The remains of the young lady was later removed from the well by the officials of the state Fire Fighters and deposited at the Igando General Hospital's Mortuary. The Lagos state Police Public Relation Officer[PPRO], Dolapo Badmos confirmed the incident, he added that the suspect had been transferred to the SCID for further investigations on the matter.

MEND rejects Buhari, rates him very low

I a dramatic fashion, the Movement For the Emancipation of the Niger Delta [MEND] has dumped president Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of playing politics with the controversy trailing the economy of the oil-rich Niger-delta region.

The group also quickly passed a vote of no confidence on him in what they described as sabotaging of the  November 1, 2016 demands of Chief Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta forum[PANDEF] MEND also wondered why the president was double-speaking on the several sessions of dialogue held between its representatives and those of the Federal Government on the peace process being explored on Henry Okah and Charles Okah and others case at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The group which withdrew its support from the second-term bid of former president Goodluck Jonathan, a Niger Deltan, and threw its weight behind General Buhari in the wake of the 2015 presidential election, passed a vote of no confidence on him. According to the group, President Buhari goofed by blackmailing the Niger Delta region and making provocative outbursts about the region at different fora, especially outside the shores of the country.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the group, Jomo Gbomo accused the president of volunteering conflicting and contradicting statements about the politics surrounding the region's questions and its oil and gas economy.

Without prejudice to the pre-2015 presidential election endorsement freely and voluntarily given to President Buhari on January 6, 2015, the group hereby categorically and unequivocally passes a vote of no confidence on the government of President Buhari.

Prior to and after his reluctant meeting with the traditional rulers, opinion leaders and stakeholders of the Niger-Delta region, under the auspices of Pan Niger-Delta Forum [PANDEF], on November 1, 2016,President Muhammadu Buhari has been carrying on arrogantly and making some rather controversial and disrespectful comments about the politics and economy of the oil-rich region. In due time, we shall prove to him that we are still relevant. We are still in control.

Armed robber arrested three times, finally retires from robbery,

It is often recommended that People should be persistent in what they do, even if result is not forthcoming. Persistence no doubt pays, and it is therefore advisable to hang on to your endevour until the seemingly elusive success is achieved.

However, it is definitely not the ideal advise to this young man who has tried his hands on robbery three times, and on each of those occasions, he ended up in the police net. Welcome to the world of 28-year-old Nnamdi Okorie. According to Okorie who was arrested by the men of the Delta state police command for a robbery offence, he attempted to carry out three robbery operations, and in each time he had been arrested by the police.

He lamented that no matter how painstaking he planned his operation, it would still fail. This, he said made him to finally realize that robbery is simply not his calling.

His words: I am not cut out for robbery. It's not in me. I need forgiveness. I will never go for robbery again. Each time i go for robbery operation i would be arrested. I have tried three times and failed three times.

The suspect finally resigned himself to fate after he snatched a Toyota Highlander Jeep along Asaba-Benin expressway.

The police said that Okorie and his gang attacked one Mr. Chibuzor Nzerem of the Federal College of Education[Technical], Asaba. They attacked their victim behind MTN office in the metropolis. After attacking their victim, the gang zoomed off through the expressway by Onicha-ugbo.

The gang was however intercepted by the operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team, who mounted road blocks along the axis.

Gambia's President-elect assasinated

Gambia's president-elect, Adama Barrow, has been assassinated by unknown gunmen. The surprise winner of the Gambian Presidential poll had vowed last week that he would take office on 19th of January, despite the baffling refusal of the defeated incumbent president, Yahya Jammeh, to relinquish power.

Mr. Barrow's assailants overpowered his security guards in an onslaught that also left two of his security guards dead, and six others severely injured by gunshots.

President Yahya Jammeh, who is the prime suspect of the crime, was quick to deny having any hand in his rival's killing. The assassination of the president-elect comes few days after he referred to the country's constitution that court action cannot prevent the winner of the poll from assuming office as stipulated in the Gambian constitution. He said this in response to the incumbent president's assertion that the ECOWAS' decision to send troops to ensure a peaceful transition of power was a call for war, and thereby called for fresh poll. It should be crystal clear that filing an election petition is the private matter of a loser in an election. It does not prevent mandatory constitutional process from taking it's cause"  Mr. Barrow added.
