The Nigerian Navy has uncovered a fake naval training school used by suspected criminals to defraud unsuspecting individuals and companies. Te commander of the Nigerian Navy ship Jubilee, Calabar, commodore Saidu Garba, disclosed that the operators of the training school called it Nigerian merchant Navy Coastal Defence Force.

He added that the school's operators deceived unsuspecting members of the public that it was an affiliate training centre which recruited and trained people for direct entry into the Nigerian Navy. The Commodore added that items recovered from the suspects included military camouflage and accoutres, and a self styled 'obstacle crossing' used by the military in  training personnel.

Speaking while parading the six illegal operators of the said school and four trainees to journalists in Wiiyakara community, Khana Local Government Area, Garba said troops arrested 10 suspects on the scene, including six operators of the training school four trainees.

He said: "On January 9th during a routine patrol, troops of NNS Jubilee came across a sign post bearing the name: Nigerian Navy Coastal Defence Force, situated in Wiiyaaka community in Khana LGA. On further search, our patrol team discovered that the illegal organization used a model primary school in the community as its training centre."

"This illegal organization specializes on recruitment and training after collecting huge sums of money from the unsuspecting members of the public through sell of forms and registration. They also conduct training for youths, and at the end of their training, send them out in the name of industrial attachment to so-called Naval organizations."
