KOWA Party applauds Obaseki on ban on illegal ticketing and taxes in Edo
Edo state chapter of KOWA party has lauded the ban on illegal ticketing and collection of outrageous taxes in the state, describing the move by the state Governor as deft and timely. The governorship candidate of KOWA in the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state, Mr. Thompson Osadalor, said the ban would not only stop the state from being shortchanged by a few individuals who collected illegal levies and taxes from such ticketing, but also stop the oppression of the people of the state.
Osadalor said Government depended on taxes to fund its budget, but stressed that such taxes must have human face. He further called on Governor Obaseki to set up a committee to fashion out a viable frame work for collecting levies through tickets, especially from motor parks, traders and others across the state.
He said: I sincerely commend Governor Obaseki for having the political will to place a ban on all forms of ticketing in Edo state. To me, this has been long overdue. While i don not see anything wrong in collecting levies, the way and manner it was collected in our darling state is unacceptable and leaves much to be desired. The people have been made to bear the burden of these levies, which in most cases have become double taxation."
