Arewa youths support Al-Mustapha's retrial

The Arewa youths under the umbrella of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum [AYCF] have thrown its weight behind the Government of Lagos state to contest the verdict of the appeal court that set former chief security officer [CSO] to the late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha, Maj. Gen. Hamza Al-Mustapha [rtd], free after he had been convicted for his alleged involvement in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election winner, Late M.K.O Abiola.

It would be recalled that Kudirat was gunned down in Lagos during the agitation to revalidate her husband's mandate. The protracted trial that lasted almost fifteen years sa Al-Mustapha convicted for murder before he was set free and acquitted by an Appeal Court.

In expression of dissatisfaction, the Lagos state Government approached the supreme court to revisit the Appeal court verdict which the Apex court granted already.

The Arewa Youths, in a statement signed by their National president, Alhaji Yerima Usman Shettima said: "The outcome of the Lagos state appeal will settle the matter once and for all" He further stated that as it stands now, the fate of the accused still hang in the balance. He added that the final verdict would put the minds of all parties involved at rest for them to move on, having seen that justice has been done properly.

However, the group warned some unnamed people it suspected to be influencing some sections of the media to misrepresent the the pronouncement of the honourable court to desist from doing so, complaining the the tones of reports of the Apex court's pronouncement in Abuja from some media platforms gave cause for concern.

The group also pointed accusing fingers at  some unnamed northern elites who they believed were collaborating with their southern counterparts to malign a party to the case with a view to keep him out of circulation permanently for no just cause.

If they continue with their diabolic tactics, the time to expose them is now. ACYF warned, saying, "we are keen watching the body movements of some individuals and group of people who might attempt to pervert the cause of justice"
