FG UPGRADES ZAMFARA BATTALION TO BRIGADE COMMAND


As part of efforts to curb incessant killing of innocent lives in Zamfara state, the minster of Defence, Mansir Mohammad Dan Ali, said the current battalion in the state will be upgraded to a brigade command. The minister made the disclosure at the opening of Comprehensive Integrated Medical Outreach programme for military and the civilian staff of the 1 Battalion Ammunition Depot, Gusau, at the weekend.

He said the move to upgrade the the Zamfara Battalion into a brigade was in fulfillment of the commitment of the federal government to end all sorts of terrorism in Zamfara and other parts of the country. Dan Ali said all necessary arrangements had been concluded to increase the strength of the troops to a brigade, adding that the contract awarded for the construction of the first phase of Gusau Army Barracks had been completed, while the foundation laying ceremony for the second phase will be performed immediately after the event.

He added that the federal government will not abandon its responsibility of protecting lives and properties of the people and hence the zeal to end arm banditry in Zamfara and other parts of the country. I want to ensure the people of Zamfara state that the federal government is doing everything possible to put an end to this barbaric actions in the state and the country in general. Please continue to cooperate with the government by giving the security agencies credible information that can be used to track down criminals operating in our society," the minister said.
